Worse Hangovers: White wine vs Red wine – Which is Known to Cause Worse Morning-after?

 

No social event is complete without wine, whether its Chardonnay or a nice Vino Tinto. People enjoy drinking wine, traditionally, on occasions and as part of meals.

It has always been a debate on which wine is healthier – the white wine or the red wine. For some other category of people, it has been noticed that one of both wine types can get you drunk faster and also give you worse hangovers, so which one could it be? which wine is actually better or causes the worst hangover?

White wine is produced by the alcoholic fermentation of the non-colored pulp of grapes which can come in any color of wine except red. There are various categories of white wine that can be used for different types of food. We have the chardonnay wine, sauvignon wine, rustling sweet wine and we also have the pinot grigio.

On average, our body can process an average of one unit of alcohol, which is 10ml of alcohol or 100ml at 10% per hour. This means a 13% small glass of wine can be processed in about an hour and a half, so how much time will it take our liver to process half a bottle of wine? This should be between four to five hours.

White wine hangover is just like any alcoholic hangover, it comes with the usual headache, nausea, and fatigue but when you want to categorize white wine hangover, it comes least to all other alcoholic drinks hangover. In fact, white wine comes in 8th place behind the beer.

Although it has its own unique hangover inducing properties, the most common factors behind white wine hangover are dehydration, alcohol poisoning and the body’s depletion of vitamins and minerals.

On the other hand, red wine hangover is more severe than that of white wine, in fact, most people would agree that red wine in most cases is too heavy to handle.

The darker the wine, the more congeners it has, so in other words darker color red wines would make you feel the worst hangover.

There are also other factors to consider when determining how fast a type of wine can give hangover, this includes the amount of vino you imbibe, also the body plays a huge role in how quickly it can metabolize alcohol.

Worse Hangovers

Taking a closer look at white wine and red wine individually can help determine why red wine is better. Red wine contains resveratrol which is very good for the heart, so drinking red wine in moderation has been known to be good heart medicine.

Also, red wine possesses certain anti-oxidants that may prevent coronary artery disease, a condition that is responsible for heart attack.

So there are several red wines out there that when taken in moderate quantity is good for consumption, for instance, pinot noir, a type of red wine which has calories of 81, its total fats is 0 gram and total carbohydrate level is 2.3 gram, its protein is 0.1gram.

Another well-known red wine suitable for consumption is Merlot which has calories of 83. There is also the cabernet, another popular type of red wine.

Over the years, there has been a strong comparison between white wine and red wine. Firstly, the major difference is that the color of grapes used in the production of each are different and also, where white wine contains some healthy compounds but in smaller quantities than red wine, red wine has been known to be healthier because the preparation contains the skin of grapes while white wine does not include the skin of grapes during fermentation.

There are other reasons why red wine is healthier than white wine, one of them is that red wine contains some key ingredients that can help with the cholesterol level, it helps to prevent damage to the blood level and also helps with the blood clot.

 

In all these benefits of red wine, one may likely ask why white wine? Well, white wines are often used as an option before a meal and also as desserts. it’s really just a matter of taste and preference. Studies have determined that white wine is also good for the heart, as it also contains high antioxidants and nutrients.

The nutritional value between red wine and white wine is not really much as the contents of red wine are about 4 grams of carbohydrate per glass while the content of white wine is 5 grams of carbohydrate per glass. The alcohol level for red wine is about 3.1 grams per glass, while for white wine its 2.9 grams per glass.

The health benefits for both red wine and white wine varies, even though red wine may have more benefits, it should be noted that drinking of whichever wine should be done in moderation as it may result to a hangover and problems associated with it.

Generally, excessive drinking over a long period of time would most likely lead to the damage of vital internal organs of the body and thereby overshadow the said health benefits. It is, however, safe to limit consumption to about two glasses of wine per day for men and one glass of drink per day for women.

  2. Today, I wenht to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell
    and gave it to my 4 year old dauyghter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell
    to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside
    and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
